Website: N/A
Description
The purpose of this endowment is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students at the University of Washington who are pursuing degrees in any of the following areas of study:
- Physical sciences;
- Life sciences;
- Engineering:
- Mathematics; and/or
- Other areas of national need as determined by the National Science Foundation
It was Thomas Joseph Sedlock’s philosophy that the future will be dominated by the best ideas, not the most ideas. The focus of the scholarship support is on quality and the self-motivated individual, the exceptional individual without thinking about stereotypes. Recipients awarded this scholarship will be those who break the mold.
Additionally, past academic achievement is not absolutely required, but objectively manifested initiative is. By way of example but not by way of limitation, such initiative could be: notable self-created experiments in some scientific endeavor, demonstrated leadership in some activity, exceptional writings, etc. It was important to Mr. Sedlock that recipients of this scholarship have demonstrated persistence and follow-through.
