NEW IN 2026! UW Global is partnering with DAAD Rise to provide funding for selected UW students.

To apply for an internship placement for summer 2027 you must:

• currently be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a university/ college in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Ireland in the field of biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field).
• as an International student, you must prove that you study at a university/ college located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Ireland for more than 12 months by the application deadline.
• be an undergraduate who will have completed at least 2 years of a degree program by the time of the internship placement.
• prove that you will maintain undergraduate status after the internship has taken place.
• German language skills are not required for most positions but would be helpful to manage everyday life outside of the laboratory. The working language will generally be English.

German Citizenship holders: You are only eligible to apply if you can prove that you have been living outside of Germany for six years or more. Add the relevant information to your CV.

Canadian students: DAAD works closely with the Canadian organisation Mitacs and their Globalink Research Internship program. Mitacs offers up to 100 positions  for successful matched candidates in the RISE Germany program.

RISE Germany offers summer research internships in Germany for undergraduate students studying in North America, Great Britain and Ireland in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences, and engineering. It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 2 to 3 months during the summer. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. The working language will be English. About 350 scholarships are available each year. All scholarship holders receive stipends from the DAAD to help cover living expenses, while partner universities & research institutes provide housing assistance.

1. the DAAD Rise application, and
2. an application through UW Study Abroad.
