Description
The Puget Sound Association of Phi Beta Kappa (PSA-PBK) awards the Myra Lupton Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to a first-generation student at the University of Washington or University of Puget Sound. First-generation is defined as having parents or guardians who have not received an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
The scholarship honors Myra Lupton who served on the PSA-PBK board for more than 50 years. She graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in English and biology, and taught English at Sammamish High School for 31 years. Mrs. Lupton advocated for children and youth, education, parks and, through the League of Women Voters, civic engagement.
Eligibility
Additional requirements for the Lupton Scholarship include that you must:
1. be enrolled as an undergraduate during the next academic year;
2. be either a full-time student (UPS 3 units and UW 12 credits) or a part-time student (UPS, at least 2 units and UW, at least 8 credits);
3. have a minimum 3.4 GPA;
4. be eligible for financial aid based on FAFSA.

Procedure
You can compete for this scholarship by completing the application, available at https://www.psa-pbk.org/scholarships, and writing an essay as described below.
The essay topic for this year is: How has your experience as a first-generation student informed your goals and aspirations for college and beyond?
The essays will be judged primarily on the argument developed. Essays should be two to three (2-3) single-sided, double-spaced pages in length.
