Description
NOGLSTP established the Out to Innovate™ Scholarship for LGBTQ+ Students in STEM, following NOGLSTP’s inaugural Out to Innovate™ Career Summit for LGBTQ+ People in STEM. These scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) programs who are either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or an active ally of the LGBTQ+ community. The scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of talented LGBTQ+ students in STEM careers.
Guidelines
Scholarship awards will be paid in the Fall semester/quarter only.
Scholarships must be used in the academic year awarded.
Scholarships might not be available every year.
Scholarships must be used for educational expenses only, which include tuition, textbooks, e-textbook subscriptions, educational supplies, research supplies, registration for professional meetings at which the awardee is presenting a poster or talk, travel/accommodations for professional meetings at which the awardee is presenting a poster or talk.
Eligibility
- Successful completion of a minimum of two years of post-high school education at an accredited college or university
- Maintenance of a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on 4-point scale) for the entirety of college/university enrollment
- A declared major in an accredited STEM program or STEM-related teaching field
- Be an active supporter of and participant in programs or organizations that promote LGBTQ inclusion and visibility
- Students must be eligible for fall term registration and must not be under disciplinary sanction.

- application form with signed waiver, which includes

- demographics survey
- coursework / program summary
- work experience
- awards/honors
- community and extracurricular activities
- financial aid profile
- list of references
- personal statement (essay) (include with application, emailed to us)
- official transcript (may be emailed or surface mailed to us from your registrar)
- three letters of reference (to be emailed directly to us from each recommender)

- Applicant should email the application form and personal statement.
- Each Recommender should email their PDF letter of reference on their official letterhead.

NOGLSTP is a membership-based professional society that educates and advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students and professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. NOGLSTP is an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a participating professional society in the MentorNet® Affiliated Partners Plus program, a sustaining member of the National Postdoctoral Association, an endorsing society of DiscoverE (formerly National Engineers Week), a founding member of the DiscoverE Diversity Council, a partner with the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium, an American Chemical Society Diversity Programs Partner, and a partnering organization with the National Research Mentoring Network.
