Description
Each year, The LAGRANT Foundation provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate ethnic minority students who are attending accredited institutions and are pursuing careers in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations. Graduate students receive $3,250 each and undergraduate students receive $2,000 each.
Scholarship Program
The 2023 TLF Scholarship Program is Accepting Applications!
The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) will award 100 scholarships in 2023 in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Of the 100 scholarships, (60) ethnic minority undergraduate students will receive scholarships of $2,000 each and (40) graduate students will receive scholarships of $3,250 each. Students must be attending four-year accredited institutions in the U.S. and majoring in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations.
Program Description
The scholarship recipients will receive a trip to either New York City, Portland, OR, or Minneapolis, MN where they will participate in career building activities. This includes a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, three to four day-long career development workshops, and a scholarship & donor recognition reception. During these activities, students will have the opportunity to meet industry professionals, network and gain exposure to the advertising, marketing and public relations world.
TLF accepts applications from undergraduate students (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors ONLY) and graduate students.
Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient
- Must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/American Indian
- Must be a full-time student at a four-year, accredited institution in the U.S., carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter
- *Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA (if you do not meet this requirement, please see the application checklist below)
- MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis in advertising, marketing, public relations
- MUST have AT LEAST ONE YEAR to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded in May 2023
- Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities from either May 7 – May 10 2023, May 14 – May 16 2023, and May 21 – May 23 2023. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities in either New York, Portland, or Minneapolis as noted at top of page to receive the scholarship. The applicant must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support

- MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis in advertising, marketing, public relations
- MUST have a MINIMUM OF TWO ACADEMIC SEMESTERS or ONE-YEAR left to complete his/her Master’s degree from the time the scholarship is awarded in May 2023. Summer semesters DO NOT count
- Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities from either May 7 – May 10 2023, May 14 – May 16 2023, or May 21 – May 23 2023. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF scholarship activities in either New York, Portland, or Minneapolis as noted at top of page to receive the scholarship. Procedure
- Application must be typed or it will not be accepted
- Application form, which includes all of the following components. The following essay questions should be answered on separate pages:
- A one to two-page essay outlining your career goals and where you see your career path leading you. In addition, explain why you believe it’s important to increase the number of ethnic minorities in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations.
- A brief paragraph explaining college and/or community activities in which you are involved in
- A brief paragraph describing any honors and awards that you have received
- *Optional: If you do not think your GPA accurately reflects your scholastic capability and achievement, then draft an essay no longer than one-page explaining the discrepancy
- One reference letter from a college professor or internship advisor on official letterhead and signed
- Your current resume
- Unofficial transcripts from your college/university; if you are selected as a finalist, you must provide official transcripts. An acceptance letter from your college/university may be used as a substitute for unofficial transcripts if you are an incoming freshman for Fall 2023
- Headshot photo of applicant

History
- Since inception in 1998, TLF has awarded 703 scholarships, totaling approximately $3 million.
- TLF received the American Advertising Federation Mosaic Award in 2008 for the Student Diversity Program Category.
- For our 10th Anniversary in 2008, 15th Anniversary in 2013 and 20th Anniversary in 2018 TLF awarded $250,000 in scholarships in each of those years.
- TLF Founder/Chairman Kim L. Hunter received the 2010 Change Agent ADCOLOR Award.
- TLF Founder/Chairman Kim L. Hunter received the 2011 Joseph Roos Community Service PRISM Award from the Public Relations Society of America’s Los Angeles chapter.
- TLF Founder/Chairman Kim L. Hunter was recognized by PR Week as the 2011 Diversity Champion for the publication’s Diversity Distinction in PR Awards.
- TLF Founder/Chairman Kim L. Hunter was named on of “The 50 Most Powerful People in PR” by PR Week in 2012.
- TLF Chairman & CEO Mr. Kim L. Hunter was inducted to PR Week’s 2017 Hall of Fame.
