The DOE Scholars Program is designed to provide opportunities and attract talented undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates to appointments that are carefully designed to help prepare participants towards the full range of entry and mid-level research, technical and professional positions within DOE and organizations that support the DOE mission. DOE Scholars Program will introduce highly qualified students and postgraduates to DOE missions, functions, and operations

The DOE Scholars Program may offer multiple opportunities during the year to accommodate the needs and schedule of individual sponsoring offices. The general eligibility criteria for the DOE Scholars Program is listed below. However, some opportunities may have different eligibility requirements. To qualify for an opportunity, you must meet the eligibility requirements detailed for the opportunity in Zintellect.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Meet one of the following conditions:
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution of higher education.
- Have completed an undergraduate (B.A., B.S. or equivalent) or graduate (M.S., DVM, Ph.D., or equivalent) degree within five years of the application deadline.
- Be a U.S. military Veteran who has been honorably discharged and/or who has been medically discharged because of a service-connected disability and who received a college degree in an appropriate discipline within ten years of the desired start date.
- Have completed a qualifying certificate program within one year of the desired start date. The qualifying certificate program must be offered by an accredited academic institution; must require a minimum of 30 semester credit hours or the equivalent; must be in an appropriate science, technology, engineering, or math discipline; and should be related to or complement a prior degree earned (bachelor’s degree or higher).
- Must be pursuing a degree or have a degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline or have demonstrated interest or experience in a STEM field that supports the DOE mission.
All components must be submitted via Zintellect, the ORISE online application system. All application components must be received in the system in order to be considered.

- Transcripts/Academic Records - Unofficial transcripts or copies of the student academic records printed by the applicant or by academic advisors from internal institutional systems may be submitted. Transcripts must include name of the academic institution, name of the student, completed/in progress coursework and grades. Transcripts must show the equivalent of at least one year of full-time postsecondary school attendance. First-year graduate students must submit their undergraduate transcript, including the last two years of courses, degree, and date degree was awarded.
- Letter of Recommendation - Letter should address your academic record and potential for success in an appointment, such as demonstrated intellectual merit, communication and teamwork skills.
Submitted transcripts must have all social security numbers, student identification numbers, and/or dates of birth removed (blanked out, blackened out, made illegible, etc.) prior to uploading into the application system.
