Description
Each year the Association awards scholarships to young men and women who reside in either Washington or Oregon for their education studying Danish language and literature, arts and crafts, history and political science. For over 16 years, our scholarship awards have made educational dreams a reality.
Through its scholarship program, The Northwest Danish Association seeks to:
- Continue the traditions of education and career opportunity that are found in both the United States and Denmark
- Encourage students in the states of Washington and Oregon to pursue their highest individual levels of achievement
- Support the potential need in today’s environment to prepare for a variety of careers in a lifetime
- Acknowledge the value of a broad range of educational purposes from mastering basics needed for pursuing specialized knowledge and skills
- Recognize the worth of careers that enrich individual and community life and/or entertain
- Provide financial assistance for a variety of expenses related to a program of study
Eligibility
- You must be a current member of the NWDA (current family membership is OK if you are under 18 years old by the application deadline).
- An applicant must demonstrate a connection to Denmark through life experience, travel, study abroad, field of study, or heritage. The program is open to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, or nationality.
- You must reside in the States of Oregon or Washington OR be enrolled in an accredited school in the States of Oregon or Washington.
- You must intend to use the NWDA scholarship in seeking an academic degree, vocational degree, or re-training for employment possibilities, or in training for a legitimate artistic career that will enrich you.
- Preference will be given to those who have participated in NWDA activities or programs.
- Should you be awarded a scholarship, it is contingent upon your acceptance by the educational institution or traineeship you are applying to. Proof of acceptance will be required.
